Member Monday time! This week with Kacie Swanson! And of course I have to remind you once more to RSVP for NBZ day by TOMORROW. Call camp at 262-652-7466. Now lets hear from Kacie: When did you go to camp, and what did you do there? I began camp as a camper in 2002. I was a camper for five years, and never had to be a trekker. I then moved straight to LIT (2007), I was a JL the following summer (2008) and volunteered for the rest of that summer. I then joined staff for four years (2009-2012). I was a cabin leader for the first three summers on staff. I was with all of the different ages. I began with the younger campers (Sequoia!) and then had trekkers my third summer. For these years, I taught anything from Kayaking to H2Awesome to Dance and Drama. The final year, I was the JL counselor for a great group of JLs. What have you been up to since you were last at camp? Since camp, I graduated from McHenry County College with an associate’s degree in sciences. I then transferred to Illinois State University with a major in Bilingual Elementary Education and a minor in Spanish. Last summer, I spent a month in Spain to study Spanish and complete some final classes. I plan on graduating from ISU next spring after my student teaching is complete. I begin student teaching next school year with a class of fourth grade dual-language students in Elgin, IL. Whats your favorite... Camp memory? Too many to choose! As a camper-Each and every ceremony and campfire (both opening and closing), getting rescued by crash when the sailboat turtled. As a counselor- Finally experiencing color war, watching the stars from the A-field courts, constantly being surprised at the things my campers say and do, creating monster fires on pack outs, watching lip syncs, leading the purple ceremony, BRMP, creeping on my JLs, planning the Hunger Games, and of course, always being mistaken as a camper… thanks. Camp song? Fast Song- Head and Shoulders (1…2…3), Slow Song- Linger Camp meal? Pita Pizzas- campout of course! Dessert-Dirt Pudding. Camp activity? Color War final relay, initiatives, siesta. Theme day? Harry Potter Day, and the classic Pirates v. Ninja Day
