Member of the European Parliament, the leader of the French party Left front Jean-Luc Melanšon in his speech 25 November predicted a bleak future for the European Union. According to the politician, now one of the major threats to the Union represents a fast growing external debt. The EU countries total foreign debt exceeds even the United States rates with 17.7 trillion dollars. In first place among European countries is United Kingdom (9.5 trillion dollars as of March 31, 2014), to France (5.7 trillion dollars), the third was Germany (5.5 trillion dollars) for comparison, Russias external debt as of October 1, 2014 year was only 678 billion dollars. In terms of percentage of GDP, figures are even more striking-British debt is more than 400% of gross domestic product, French-182%, German-142%. This debt will never be paid, said Melanšon.
