Members of the 53rd Legislature in compliance with their constitutional mandate returned to Capitol Hill today, January 12, 2015 to officially begin the 4th Session of that Honorable Body with thirteen new faces appearing in the Liberian Senate. Speaking to his colleagues, Speaker J. Alex Tyler said if Liberia should progress in it’s development, the three branches of the government must coordinate and collaborate to enhance the country’s recovery drive as was exhibited during the fight against Ebola. “Coordination among the three branches of Government is only constitutional strains, which are greased by the oil of integrity, honesty and sincerity” Speaker Tyler noted. Speaker Tyler at the same time praised on the Leadership of the Press Union of Liberia and the Liberian Media in General for what he termed as an impressive job recently demonstrated for their balanced reportage during the just ended Special Senatorial Election. Also sparking, Vice President Joseph Boakai stressed the need for a joint effort of the both houses in the developmental drive of the Liberia. The formal Opening Ceremony of the 4th Session was In line with the 1986 Constitution of the Republic of Liberia, Article 32 (a) which states that the Legislature shall assemble in regular session once a year on the second working Monday in January. Today’s Official opening Ceremony was graced Hon. Francis S. Korkpor, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Liberia, members of the Cabinet and Foreign Missions accredited near Monrovia. Others in attendance were heads of political parties, the Clergy, heads of Civil Society groups, local and international NGOs, eminent citizens amongst others.
