Members, this Facebook page was created for one purpose: To make people aware of the mismanagement of the Menindee Lakes Scheme by the Murray Darling Basin Authority. The message has been heard and this page is still making people aware. We have been aiming to get someone to admit to making a major mistake in allowing the massive draw down of water in December 2103 and creating the current environmental disaster. But we all know that not one single person or a Government Authority will admit to making a mistake. We all know where the problem lies and what needs to be done to turn things around but it is going to be a long hard road because all we have left is all we have!! Federal Politicians, State Politicians and Officials from the MDBA have been interviewed on both Radio 2NB and Radio 2BH and they have all preached about evaporation, not mis- management. We are at some point in time going to be introduced to a Bore Water or Aquifer supplement as an emergency water supply, unless we get a massive rain event in any part of the catchment that feeds into the Barwon-Darling System. I think the way we should approach this issue from here on, is to work closely with our Local Elected Counsellors and Management from Broken Hill City Council. I strongly feel that a Street March or Protest Rally would have nil effect against what we can achieve on this Facebook page, so therefor I am against both, now and in the future. If there was a chance that the Murray Darling Basin Authority decided that they were to admit liability, then we have every right to hold them accountable but again we all know that this is not going to happen, unless the News about Craig Knowles announcing his departure from the MDBA in January 2015, is actually having someone fall on their sword. I had a very productive meeting today with Mayor Wincen Cuy and General Manager Therese Mans. These people are on the same task as us, believe me. I will be meeting with Kevin Stacey and Larry Angell, hopefully tonight, to set out a list of objectives and recommendations to supply to Council, from our point of view of what we want to happen. These concerns will be passed on to NSW Water Minister/ Minister for Western NSW and to the Murray Darling Basin Authority. In my view, I believe that re-engineering works are needed for the MLS and Successive Governments have ignored this by not progressing with the necessary works. The MLS is over 50 years old and cant do the job of todays water requirements for all users. I, as many others know that if there wasnt over allocation of water upstream and downstream of the MLS, there possibly would not be any need for change but unfortunately Governments in all concerned States have allowed this to happen. My views and opinions are simply that, mine and I dont expect that everyone will agree with what I have said today. We are getting noticed, we are getting heard, Governments and Authorities are taking about the issues we have raised, we now need to assist our Local Reps in getting this to the correct levels. I am still awaiting confirmation of a meeting with John Williams and Kevin Humphries on 24th October to move another step forward with this issue. We are currently stuck between a rock and a hard place because with the State Election just over the horizon, Kevin Humphries will more than likely be our next State Member of Parliament representing the new State Seat of Barwon. The bonus is, if I can quote it as a bonus, is that he currently has two Ministries that have a major effect on us, Water and Western NSW and through these two Ministries we can hold him accountable Once I have my audience with Kevin Humphries, I will know where we stand. This should not stop any member of this group from being pro-active towards this issue and demanding the quality water supply that we as a City deserve. Dont stop posting, dont stop sending emails or ringing the people in power, Ley, Humphries and Williams, they still need to know that this issue is not going away until we get the solutions that we want. Il keep you all updated as these meetings progress.
