Memorable chance encounters during the Divina Pastora Canonical Coronation Anniversary merienda at the Convento de Agustino: 1) I was talking with Doc Cecille Diego by a table of guests that included Mrs. Tess Uy-Tinio, when this guy stood up and introduced himself to me as Rommel Tinio, a former grade school pupil of my mother. Learned that he regularly visited my online newspaper, Nueva Ecija Journal. Rommel, his brother Christian (the ex-mayor) and only sister Ana were once my mother pupils. Nice to know that my mother, who died in 2000, is still fondly remembered. 2) I was chatting with Councilor Perry Hernandez, my former student at WUP (yes, when he was a freshman!), when this lady in terno stopped before me and said I was the guest speaker when she graduated from Juan R. Liwag High School -- it was City Mayor Maricel Natividad-Nagaño. I told her I still remember with amusement how every time her name was mentioned during the program, her father, ex-Mayor Eto, would explode baby rockets. Her secretary, Ria Garcia, also introduced herself though it turned out I already know her as her family lives just at the other side of the block. 3) I approached retired Brig. Gen. Orlando Ambrocio and asked if he remembered me; we were classmates from grade school to high school. With us last seeing each other way back in 1967(!), he had difficulty recognizing me. Truth is I didnt recognize him either when I first saw him earlier inside the church. I told him my name. He smiled, turned to his wife and said Siya ang valedictorian namin. I had to correct him: in grade school, yes; in high school, no. 8-)
