Memorial Day should be a time to remember those who have served - TopicsExpress

Memorial Day should be a time to remember those who have served with honor in our nations armed forces. It should not be an occasion to worship a self serving military institution, which seems to be the case in these times in our country. While its true that fighting wars is sometimes necessary to maintain our freedom, it is equally true that the necessity for war should be mourned, not celebrated. Armed life and death conflict should serve as a reminder that we still have tails, and we ought to shudder and weep with grief each time that we have to send young men and women into the maw of violence created by evildoers who strive to impose their corrupt will on the world. Forget the cook outs, flag waving, nationalistic posturing, and other so called patriotic gestures, On Memorial Day we should instead fall on our knees and rue the necessity to defend against the tyranny of our own base impulses and ask forgiveness for sacrificing our sons and daughters and brothers and sisters on the bloody altar of war.
