Memories - Just found this in a box. I just found this Exhibitors Pass in a box in my garage, what memories from those days. The incredible Horse of the Year Show at Wembley from the 3rd through 7th of October 1972. It does not seem possible that fourty two years have passed since then, where oh where does time go? 1972, the year of the Olympic Games in Munich, Germany, how can we possibly forget that Olympics? Richard Meade and Laurieston won the Individual Gold Medal for Great Britain and then went on to help the team win Gold also. The team consisted of Richard Meade and Laurieston, Mary Gordon-Watson riding Cornishman V, Bridget Parker aboard Cornish Gold and Mark Phillips with Great Ovation. In the individual Show Jumping events, Graziano Mancinelli and Ambassador for Italy took home the Gold Medal while Great Britains very own Ann Moore brought home the Silver Medal. Neal Shapire and Sloopy won the Bronze for the United States. West Germany won the Team Gold Medal in Show Jumping represented by Fritz Ligges and Robin, Gerhard Wiltfang riding Askan, Hartwig Steenken aboard Simona and the great Hans Günter Winkler with Trophy. The United States took home the silver represented by William Steinkraus with Main Spring, Neal Shapiro and Sloopy, Kathryn Kusner riding Fleet Apple and Frank Chapot with White Lightning. The Bronze Medal was taken home by the Italian team consisting of Vittorio Orlandi with Fulmer Feather, Raimondo DInzeo riding Fiorello, Piero DInzeo aboard Easter Light and Graziano Mancinelli riding Ambassador. It was also the Olympics of pure terrorism when 11 members of the Israeli Olympic team were taken hostage and eventually killed, along with a German police officer, by the Palestinian group Black September. A despicable act that will never be forgotten, an absolute atrocity and cowardly act by once again, sick extremists who have no value for human life.
