Men. From Dad, to men of God, to husbands, I have had a bag of tricks when it comes to the opposite gender. Unfortunately I am sure that I am not alone in this statement. However, we all have our sad story and there is no sense in dwelling. Amidst the bag of tricks in my life I found a couple of jewels. Men of love and honor in my heart that I will be forever thankful for. One is Uncle Bob. He is my dad’s brother. He was probably in his late teens or early 20’s and he provided for and many times protected (from my grandfather) his mother, and mentally challenged brother. He called me “slim” because I always had to buy the slim jeans. He bought me my first 10 speed bike and my first Jordache Jeans (got beatup for those jeans after school but they didn’t get ‘em). I always felt safe and had fun when he was around. He picked me up in the caddie as he was slowing down to gawk at some snow covered little girl with a French horn sitting at the bus stop, and then realized it was me and stopped…right on High Street and put me in the car. Lol He took me to the apt complex pool. A boy about 12 was dry on a raft. I was splashing around and Bob had gotten out. Pretty soon he called me over because the two women that were at the pool were upset because I got the boy IN THE POOL, who was dry on the raft, wet! He was whining. Well Bob and I decided he was a wuss. So Bob sat back close to the ladies as I am sure they were confident that he scolded me. I took a deep breath, swam underwater all the way to the middle of the raft and turned that raft and dry boy right over. Oh my goodness did we laugh. The boy and mommies left. I guess he provided and protected me too. Let me be a little out of control once in awhile. This is lengthy so I will save the other Jewel for tomorrow. Right now I thank you God for Uncle Bob. Don’t dwell on the tricks my friends…..focus on the Jewels.
