Men vs Boys.. Todays epic encounter saw the 6th place Mons Calpe take on 7th place Red Imps, the game had the ingredients to be a cracker and it didnt disappoint. A quick mention goes to the Red Imps midfielder Dean Torrilla who today made his comeback after his horrific injury sustained in the early stages of the season. The game started with Mons Calpe on the attack and pressuring well making Red Imps make a few early mistakes. Red Imps soon realised what was going on and decided to sit deep and hit Mons Calpe on the counter-attack as they have been known to play a high line. The match was going to be decided by one simple line. Whoever wins the midfield battle, wins the match. The main battle was going to be between the influential players Jayce Consigliero & Issac Cereto with both players being capable of turning a game on its head. Red Imps hit first with Graeme Torrilla squeezing the ball under Jamie Carlin in the Mons Calpe goal and into the back of the net. Rumours were flying around like week that maybe with the arrivals of new signings that it would be the end of the road for young Graeme but today showed us why he should be the first name on the team sheet. Mons Calpe replied straight away with Lupi bringing out a great save from Moxham. Red Imps made it 2-0 with Red Imps striker Dan Lane scoring a delicate chip from a great assist from Tristan Sergeant. From the scoreline it was obvious that our theory was right and the midfield duo of Jayce Consigliero & Dean Torrilla won the battle in the midfield and the game. The first half ended with Red Imps on top and on cruise control to win the game. Second half restarted with Mons Calpe on the attack with Lupi testing Moxham countless times but the keeper was on hand to save them all. Red Imps got their third goal, a free-kick from midfield engine Luis Consigliero whipped the ball into the box and Mons Calpe poorly cleared with the ball landing straight to the feet of Graeme Torrilla who tucked it home. The game didnt stop there, halfway through the second half Red Imps were awarded a penalty as live-wire Graeme Torrilla was in the midst of the action again as he was brought down in the box by keeper Jamie Carlin.Luis Consigliero was given the responsibility of taking the penalty and missed it as his effort rocketed off the post. The game started heating up near the end with Mons Calpe getting frustrated as they struggled to get the ball of Red Imps. The only highlight for Mons Calpe were the players spent more time on the floor then on their feet, their theatrics at times were almost comical. Mons Calpe had Ardanaz Garcia sent off after having a kick-out at midfielder Dean Torrilla and were lucky to only have one player sent off. Red Imps killed the game off near the end with playmaker Dean Torrilla making a great run which saw him beat 3 players and square the ball to Kyan Prescott who tapped it into an empty net to make it 4-0. FT: Red Imps 4-0 Mons Calpe A magnificent performance from Red Imps who keep on impressing every week. We cant forget about the Red Imps management who have turned this club around from a weak team last year to a team which is feared by many. Contender for Manager of the Season? For Mons Calpe, new coach, same mistakes comes to mind. 5Point4, bringing sports to you...
