Menial jobs like flipping burgers or sweeping the warehouse floor were never intended to be careers. They are jobs were teenagers could prove to their employer they possessed the self discipline to show up on time every day and be reliable and therefore advance to a career job where they could support themselves. Yet today, only about half of those between the ages 16 to 24 are employed even part time. The percentages do vary by race, Using North Carolina as an example, three quarters of the illegal immigrant population are actively employed soaking up virtually every entry level job for teens of all races and other disadvantaged citizens in the State. Even Caesar Chavez wanted the border closed to illegal immigration! If you want a job that earns a living wage, the answer isnt to protest for a higher minimum wage. First, close the border and take that entry level job. Then, earn the chance at a career move to make enough were you can support your family. (Probably not going to be my last rant on this topic.)
