Message from Nell: Just about anyone who knows me knows I hate hate hate asking for money. I even sometimes discourage people from donating to us if Im afraid it might be a hardship. (Are you SURE you want to donate? Is that too much for you? You can give less than that, too; you need to take care of your needs first.) I know, its a problem I have to work on. Today we had our first recurring donation, an annual contribution at our Supporter level of $250. Its the highest level I set up, thinking we would never see anyone giving that much. When I saw it, I teared up. When I think about the work we do, I just think of it as necessary, as something we have to do regardless of funding. When someone else, someone who isnt trans, and may not even be in the wider queer family (Ive never asked this person), when someone else values our work enough to give what to me is a very substantial amount of money, it is deeply moving. Weve had two donations this month that far exceed our normal level of donations, and that has been affecting. Although I hate talking about the funding aspect of what we do, I can sometimes talk about how it feels for someone to tell you in a tangible way that your work has meaning and value, as Im doing here. It is reassuring; it boosts your confidence; it makes decisions that you question if they were right or wrong a little less questionable. It helps you just take the next step forward. I dont want to put the link up here, but Im going to do it. This is a rare time Ill make the ask. If you are considering an end-of-year donation to some nonprofit/501(c)(3) organization, please consider the work we do, and if it is worth supporting. Any amount helps. Even small donations not only contribute, they show the community is behind your work and engaged in your endeavors. Finally, thank you. Thank you to everyone who has given any level of support -- it is all greatly appreciated. tpride.org/support/donations.php
