Message relating to Fly Tipping from our Watch Liaison Officer, Sue Blackburn Fly tipping is illegal and it has been a problem across Blackpool and the Fylde Coast for the past few months. Recently there has been a dramatic increase. Last night for example, a wagon dropped rubbish on both Paddock and Kipling Drives totally blocking the road which caused not only a problem for pedestrians, but for vehicular traffic which drove on the pavements to get past, and the regular bus had to be diverted. The residents in the area banded together and helped remove some of the rubbish, which included toilets, carpets, tiles, text books etc., prior to Council sending a Cleansing Department vehicle to clear the road. Today – just after midday, a long wheel base cabin crew tipper dark blue vehicle with two males on board, tipped household refuse including flooring, bedding, lino and tv’s etc. around a large number of locations in Blackpool (Baron – just dumped three t.v’s), Saville Road, Harlech, Arnside and Westfield Avenue. Westfield Avenue again was completely blocked. Log 0522 of 17th September if you have anything to add to this incident. In the Staining vicinity, Mythop Drive and Smithy Lane have been continual prime targets for fly tippers again dropping off household rubbish left over from renovations. If you witness a vehicle fly tipping, please take down the vehicle registration number, type and colour of vehicle and get a description of the driver and passenger(s) then phone up either Blackpool Council (daytime) 01253 477477 or 01253 477600 (out of hours) and for Fylde (daytime number – no out of hours service) 01253 658658. Don’t try and take matters into your own hands. Environmental Health deal with fly tipping and, if there is a road or pathway blockage because of fly tipping, they send out someone from the Cleansing Department to clear it up. If you have CCTV footage of the offenders, please let Council know so they can view it. With YOUR assistance in reporting fly tipping, the culprits will be stopped! Thank you.
