Message to BAMBA members from Maqsoodul Haque - 12/05/14 Sent through Hamin Ahmed - President BAMBA Hi Guys, First my apologies for not being able to join you in the GM, as I have prior commitments that I simply cannot cancel. As to the purpose of this Emergency GM, many of you may be under the mistaken impression that BAMBA has panicked as another association has been formed with ex-BAMBA members and many of you have either joined them or have been curious. In both case it is your constitutional right to be members of any association or body, however - our intention is for you to make sure that you apply reason and weigh your judgement before you take a step - which we fear would indeed be a misstep and plunge you into a cesspool. What little informations we have been able to gather and after viewing the so-called associations member profile is: this is a systematic approach by unscrupulous stakeholders and over ambitious musicians who we have been resisting to ensure that our rights as musicians are protected. We have for over 6 years been in meetings, negotiations, symposium and public debates with all the stake holders that includes the Copyright Board GoB, Ministry of Cultural Affairs GoB, Shikpakala Academy etc. It is the sheer strength of BAMBA and its ability to conduct tough negotiations that has been the cause by unscrupulous stakeholders to be totally unnerved and to form and publicize a rival association who we frankly think - do not even qualify to be our rivals. After the end of todays GM and the outcome that will surely come, I will reiterate with no uncertainty that UNITY among BAMBA members is the need of the hour. There is no such thing as a perfect association and surely BAMBA is not perfect. But an organization that I had the supreme honor of being a founder member 27 years ago, is also not built on such fragile foundations that any pretender/s or copy cat/s can move us away from the initial goal we set about - many of which has already been achieved. The road has been long and arduous, and one we have patiently pursued. Sure there have been lots of personal difference, but whenever the case has been that of BAMBA we have been absolutely BRUTAL in our UNITY and that too for no personal reason. If history should ever judge us fairly - we would like to be remembered as positive visionaries - who saw tomorrow and strived relentlessly to demand our rightful share of what has been denied to us for as long as Bangladesh has been in existence. When it comes time for us to pass on the mantle of leadership to you - our successors - we want to do so with a complete satisfaction that you inherit an association with rock solid foundation and build a much larger edifice than one we have left you. I am sure you will not fail us in our vision of the larger future; for the future ultimately does not belong to us, but to you and the successive generation of musicians to come. Much love and hugs to each one of you. Maqsood Bhai Executive Committee Member - BAMBA Founder Member- President - BAMBA - 1987-1992
