Messenger Article for February 3-6th I often wake up and, even with closed windows, hear the distant sound of a train passing thru Woodward. It is a sound that I dont hear during the middle of the day because the noise of the city cancels it out. We hear things in the quietness that we wont hear unless we stop to listen. God says to us, be still and know that I am God. In 1 Kings 19 Elijah was doubting Gods presence in his life. God sent him to a mountain where Elijah experience three things that would get all our attentions. First there was a great wind, so great that the rocks were moving. God was not in the wind. Then there was a great earthquake but God was not in the earthquake. Finally there was a great fire but God was not in the fire. After these there came a gentle blowing wind and Elijah discovered that God was in the wind. We live in a day that when it comes to church the louder and more over the top the presentation the better. If we can makes peoples heads spin and emotions sore then God must be in it all. Elijah would say that we need to look for God in the right things and to make sure those things arent lost in all our human efforts. God is in His Word. His simple and direct Word. If we are not still enough to hear it then although we might enjoy a good wind, earthquake or fire we have missed God. I pray that at Woodward First we will listen for the distant trains and the quiet winds. I pray we will slow down so that we wont rush through the truths that will deliver us from ourselves. God is speaking and wants to be heard. My commitment is to hear Him, to let His Word speak and to let His work among us not be done in vain. Cool is not always Christ but Christ is always cool. Dont miss Him in your life. Seek Him where He is and that will always be in His Word. Bro. Guy
