Messi tops transfer market valuation ranking: Lionel Messi has been named the most valuable player in the world by the latest market valuation ranking undertaken by the CIES Football Observatory. The latest annual review updates the transfer valuations for the world’s top 60 stars, and according to the CIES, Messi is worth between €217m and €252m – 2.5 times the world record transfer fee. Messi at the top is little surprise though, what’s more interesting is the composition of the rest of the list. In the top 60, Chelsea have four entries – Romelu Lukaku, Oscar, Juan Mata and Eden Hazard. The Belgian is ranked highest – valued between €55.5m to €64.5m Hazard comes in at number four. There’s three Arsenal stars – Jack Wilshere (ranked 51), Theo Walcott (ranked 29) and Santi Cazorla (ranked 19) – two Tottenham players – Jan Vertonghen (ranked 58) and Gareth Bale (ranked nine) – five Manchester City – Joe Hart (ranked 50), Yaya Toure (ranked 45), Vincent Kompany (ranked 35), David Silva (ranked 10) and Sergio Aguero (ranked five).
