Messianic Jew? A person is either a Jew, a Gentile, or a Christian. He cannot be a Jewish Christian or a Gentile Christian. That would be mixing two creations, as saying that a Jewish Gentile is an impossibility too. If we are thinking of Jew in the same sense that we are using American (i.e. an Israeli Jew or an Israeli Christian, an American Jew, an American Christian), then there would be no problem. We would be associating Christian with a national standing rather than one of the other two creations. That would be similar to saying a male Christian or a female Christian. But note that in Christ there is neither. Christians are sometimes referred to as Gentiles in Scripture, but that is with reference to their Gentile heritage. But they are never referred to as Gentile Christians. And Paul, following his salvation, refers to himself in the same respect as a Jew, a Hebrew, but never as a Jewish Christian. A Jew who becomes a Christian relinquishes his national identity relative to the promises and blessings. He is no longer associated with Israel in this respect. He is now associated with heavenly promises and blessings, not earthly as he was before. But this brings no change in his Israeli or American (or wherever) citizenship. One has nothing to do with the other. So, he can now be called an Israeli (American, or wherever) Jew, but he cannot be called a Jewish Christian. The latter is mixing two creations, the former is not. Do you agree?
