"Metro Rail Transit Corp. general manager Al Vitangcol III yesterday denied meeting with Czech Ambassador Josef Rychtar and Inekon executives at a dinner in Makati, during which he reportedly asked for $30 million from the group. “I already denied that,” Vitangcol told The STAR in a brief phone interview. He also denied asking Inekon executives to form a joint venture with his uncle, with the Filipino group getting 60 percent control, before making a bid for the contract to supply trains for the MRT 3 expansion. “Wala (Nothing). That’s not true,” Vitangcol said. He declined to talk about two individuals – Wilson de Vera and Manolo Maralit – who were reportedly with him during the supposed dinner with the Czech diplomat and Inekon officials. Vitangcol said the MRT Corp. was in charge of supply transactions worth less than P10 million. Contracts exceeding that amount are under the Department of Transportation and Communications, he said. “All I can say is, it did not happen,” Vitangcol said, referring to the alleged meeting. He declined to elaborate, saying the DOTC is coming out with a detailed statement on the matter." m.philstar/314191/show/6e51c5f6b35e43ca117f3a640b6e0b14/?
