Metropolitan United Church, London, Ontario, Canada announces an exciting opportunity for young musicians. Metropolitans Shipman Organ Scholar program is a bursary offered to a university level music student who is interested in a professional career in church music. The bursary is designed to cover the cost of a year of university tuition (currently valued at $5200 and reviewed annually) and allows those who are interested in a career in sacred music the opportunity to be part of a professional level music program. The Organ Scholar is given regular opportunities to engage their service playing, conducting and choir training skills. In addition the Organ Scholar is offered regular organ lessons with the Director of Music, as an avenue to continued technical and artistic growth as an organist. The Shipman Organ Scholar Program provides the exciting opportunity to learn and develop all aspects of the professional church musicians craft, while being immersed in the day to day running of one of Canadas finest church music programs. While preference will be given to those who have had previous training as an organist, the principal requirement for application is a solid piano technique and an intention to enrol in a university level music program.
