Metservice Weather Watch 8.21pm 21 September 2013 SEVERE WEATHER WATCH FOR NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA, WAIKATO,WAITOMO, TAUMARUNUI, TAUPO, TAIHAPE, BAY OF PLENTY ROTORUA, BULLER, WESTLAND ISSUED BY METSERVICE AT 2021hrs 21-Sep-2013 HEAVY RAIN FOR MANY PARTS OF NORTHERN AND CENTRAL NEW ZEALAND THIS WEEKEND. A moist northerly flow is bringing rain to many parts of northern and central New Zealand this weekend. An active trough in this flow should cross New Zealand tonight and during Sunday. This trough willbring some intense falls and thunderstorms. A heavy rain warning is in force for Taranaki, the Tararua Range, Nelson,Richmond Range and the Marlborough Sounds. In the ranges of Buller and Westland, rain is expected to become heavy again overnight tonight, then ease Sunday night. For the upper North Island, rain is expected to become heavy and thundery for a time overnight tonight and during Sunday morning, and continue in Bay of Plenty during Sunday afternoon. This is for forecast areas Northland, Auckland,Coromandel Peninsula, Waikato, Waitomo,Taumarunui, Taupo, Taihape and Bay of Plenty. This watch is for the possibility rainfall totals may approach warning levels in these areas. People, especially trampers, are advised to keep up to date with the latest forecasts as parts of this Watch may be upgraded to a warning.
