Mexican Conductor and Composer Amador Perez Dimas (1902-1976), author of one of the most famous Danzones, Nereidas, was born in Zaachila, Oaxaca. Pérez Dimas played in various excellent bands, such as the Presidential General Staff Band and the Police Band of Mexico City, he also founded and conducted the Danzón orchestra America which graced the dance floors of the Salón México and the Gloria in the countrys capitol for years. No sooner had it become popular in Cuba, the danzón traveled to Mexico. Arriving through the Yucatan Peninsula, it took hold on the Gulf Coast state of Veracruz, which has climatic and social characteristics similar to the island. In Mexico, the brassy sound of the rhythm was retained, but it became a bit faster. Mexican composers like Felipe Villanueva, Alfredo Carrasco and Ernesto Elourdy wrote excellent and popular danzones. While in Cuba the danzón is very much an old fashioned rhythm valued for its nostalgic appeal, in Mexico it is alive with numerous yearly festivals, especially in Veracruz and Mexico City, devoted to its enjoyment. https://youtube/watch?v=ltOi829OMsc
