Mezza stagione - when I taught English school I used to laugh when I saw sailors in their "mezza stagione" uniform - is their any other military force in the world that has 3 uniforms for the year - winter, summer and mid-season???!!!! With the weather so unpredictable over the past 10 years or so mid season seems to have disappeared but the first 20 years I lived in Italy it was an annual ritual to put away your summer clothes in mid September and get out your winter clothes from the storing cupboard. The clothes for mezza stagione were usually added to the winter wardrobe and worn until November. I have seen Italians wear big shawls in October because they were the latest fashion, they may have been melting underneath the shawls but appearance is all that counts :)
