Miami County Recreational Trail To Get Mileage Markers With the cooperative efforts of the City of Troy, City of Piqua, City of Tipp City, Miami County Park District, Miami County Engineers Office/Highway Department, Miami County Auditors Office/I.T. & G.I.S. Departments, Miami County Sheriffs Office, Miami County 911 Center, and Mr. Robert Shook Miami Countys recreational trail from south to north will soon have 18 reflective surface signage installed every quarter mile. The collaborative effort involved plotting the G.P.S. coordinates of the quarter mile markers and all ingress locations from public roadways to the trail which are being created into a digital map layer for use at the Miami County 911 Center and also availabe to all first responders on their vehicle computers. This will enable dispatchers and first responders to quickly locate anyone having any type of emergency situation on the trail. City and county crews will be installing the surface signage on the middle of the trails in the coming weeks. Additional benefit is that the quarter mile markers are fairly accurate for walkers, runners, and cyclists to measure the distance they have traveled. The south county line along Canal Road is the zero point and moves north to the trails end at State Route 66 in Piqua. The Miami County Sheriffs Office would like to recognize and thank all of the above listed governmental agencies and their personnel along with Mr. Robert Shook for their time and expertise in completing this important public safety project.
