Micah Peters reporting for USA Today: Before the Cleveland - TopicsExpress

Micah Peters reporting for USA Today: Before the Cleveland Browns took on the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, Andrew Hawkins and at least one other Browns player came out for warmups and then for pregame introductions wearing T-shirts that read, Justice for Tamir Rice and John Crawford. John Crawford was shot and killed by police in August while holding an air gun in a Wal-Mart. Rice, a 12-year-old boy, was shot and killed by a Cleveland Police officer while playing with a toy gun. Response from Jeff Follmer, who is president of the Cleveland Police Patrolman Union: Its pretty pathetic when athletes think they should know the law. They should stick to what they know best on the field. The Cleveland police protect and serve the browns stadium and the browns organization owes us an apology. Also: Follmer told NEOMG -- I will not provide a link because that site has once again has failed to moderate its comments for racism -- The players dont know what our job entails. Dont judge us by what youre reading in the media. As a member of the media covering this ongoing tragedy, Id like to point out the reporting involves describing the video of the Tamir Rice shooting and quoting at length from the Department of Justice report detailing years of excessive force by the Cleveland police. Thanks to USA Today for not allowing comments on this story. No good comes from an unmoderated section, and to allow such bile further violates the public trust.
