Michael Bergsma For Nueces County Republican Party Chairman Kimberly Curtis, our Nueces County Republican Party Chair since the 2010 election has announced she is not running for re-election. Kimberly has been an able leader and hasdone a tremendous job as Chair of our Party. A lot has been accomplished on her watch and we owe her a great deal of thanks In order for our Party to remain viable and build on the successes Kimberly has achieved we must continue to identify our voters, register them and most importantly turn them out to vote. We need strong leadership, a vision of what must be accomplished and the ability to commit the time needed to get the job done. I have decided, after much reflection and discussions with friends and our elected leaders to throw my hat in the ring. I wanted you to be one of the first to know about my decision and to ask that you support my campaign to be the next Chair of the Nueces County Republican Party. We have much to do, as you’re aware the Democrats aren’t going away, Battleground Texas led by a group of Obama operatives is working tirelessly to register and turn out their voters throughout Texas and especially here in Nueces County. Wendy Davis has announced she is running for Governor and numerous left leaning organizations are pouring money into her effort to enable her to wage a full blown campaign for Governor. It is the Party’s responsibility do the ground work necessary to assist our candidates in winning their elections, from our local Judges to our Statewide and Federal office holders. I understand that and believe I can successfully lead our efforts. My pledge to you and the others in our Party is to build on our past success and continue to present the Nueces County Party as the Party of Good Government. I have been encouraged by the support I have received from Party activists and our elected leaders in Nueces County . I have worked hard during our long march to success in Nueces County. I won’t ask anyone to do something I haven’t already done. I know firsthand the job we must do - I have rung 1000s of doorbells, hung 1000s upon 1000s of door hanger, made 1000s of phone calls for our candidates and raised thousands of dollars for our Party and its candidates. I have served as precinct chair, Party Vice Chair, State Committeeman, been a state delegate numerous times, and volunteered on scores of campaigns. Ten years ago, I started the Nueces County Republican Club because I knew we needed a forum to educate our members and provide an opportunity for our elected officials to communicate with our voters. I’ve also edited an email newsletter for Republicans in the County to keep everyone informed and make them aware of important events in the County. I believe I have the background and experience needed to build the Party and get our candidates elected. Once elected, I plan to hit the ground running. Here are my immediate goals for the first 30 Days as your Chair: 1. Send out a questionnaire to all members of the party seeking your opinions on the direction of the party and what you believe we should be doing. 2. Meet with every elected Republican officeholder to seek their thoughts on how the Party can help them and what they believe our priorities should be. 3. Meet with our major financial backers to seek their thoughts on what we should be doing and ask for their continued support and buy in on our plan to keep Nueces County Republican. 4. Organize the Executive Committee made up of the Precinct Chairs and appoint a coordinating committee made up of heads of the Party to review the input received and develop a coordinated plan to move our Party forward. Within the first 45 Days I will: 1. Raise the funds necessary to hire a full time Executive Director. 2. Develop in coordination with all our candidates a planning calendar for the election to insure we are all on the same page. 3. Continue to seek information on not only how we’re doing but what else we should be focusing on with informal meetings on a regular basis, weekly during the run-up to the election. 4. Identify the military voters who are out of state but registered to vote here and prepare a mailer to them about our down ballot candidates. I especially appreciate the many Republican officeholders, Precinct Chairs and activists who have endorsed my election. Here are just a few of them and their comments.
