Michael Cole for Congress - On November 19, 2013, Marco Rubio (R-FL) introduced legislation S.1726 “Obamacare Taxpayer Bailout Prevention Act” to repeal a provision in the ACA called “risk corridors.” It is a pool of funds that help keep premium costs down by pooling healthy and unhealthy insured policy holders. If it turns out there are more sick than healthy policy holders, the government would cover the costs. That is why Republicans are calling it a “bailout” provision. Medicare Part D is set up the same way. Republicans have not attempted to repeal that provision, likely because it was not passed under President Obama. It is a good thing for seniors that Democrats did not use the same childish tactics on Medicare Part D that Republicans are pulling to hurt Americans today. If the “risk corridors” provision is repealed, premiums will go up for policy holders. It is a very irresponsible maneuver that would financially harm insured Americans. It just further proves Republicans are not mature enough to lead this country.
