Michelle hosted a viewing party last night of a panel of groups in Bentonville Ark protesting/ trying to change the culture at Walmart. They screwed it up with timing the streaming video, and the camera work was not good, but I thought some good points were made, especially the NOW President linking the issue to discriminatory practices against women. That said, I thought it was interesting the way many of the speakers adopted Walmart’s intentionally deceptive language. I know that many worked for Walmart and thus had the propaganda crammed into their heads, but please avoid repeating their propaganda—it’s meant to trick you about what is really going on. Employees are not “associates” as though they were partners in a law firm, customers are not “guests” as though they just show up with potato salad and chat with Walmart, and cashiers are not a “customer service” as though taking your money in exchange for stuff is a favor, when you should have been given it as a gift if you were really a guest.
