Mickey’s Daily Bread Isaiah Chapter 1. Now we venture forth into the land of the prophets. Always inspiring and insightful. Sometimes mysterious and hard to understand but at the same time have an important relevance to our contemporary situation today. We begin with Isaiah known as the Prince of the Prophets. His name means Salvation of the Lord and this is in essence the theme of the book. It was written between the dates 740-680 B.C. It is divided into 66 books and is a reflection both in its length and in its form of the New Testament itself with 39 books in the Old Testament and 27 in the New Testament . Verse 1 lists the Kings who Isaiah’s prophecy covers. Isaiah 1:1 (KJV) 1 The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah. The prophecy begins with the Lord saddened and dismayed with the people’s rejection of Him. Isaiah 1:3 (NLT) 3 Even an ox knows its owner, and a donkey recognizes its master’s care— but Israel doesn’t know its master. My people don’t recognize my care for them.” Because of this the country was in a mess and getting worst. However in the midst of this gloom there foreshadows a bright star of hope and mercy offered not only to Isaiah’s contemporaries but to all who will turn in faith and repentance to God. Isaiah 1:18 18 Come now, and let us reason together, says the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. What an offer which is extended through today and finds it’s complete fulfillment in the fact that, John 3:16 (KJV) 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
