Microsoft Announces Return of the Start Menu in Future Windows 8.1 Update Theres been a ton of Microsoft-related goodness coming out of the 2014 Build Developer Conference this week, including news that Windows Phone 8.1 would soon be available and that Windows 8.1 Update was official (and would be available on April 8th.) Yet arguably the biggest news was announced by Terry Myerson, Microsofts executive vice president of the Operating Systems group. Myerson announced and demonstrated a slick new Windows start menu, which behaves similarly to the venerable Windows start menu that millions of users have come to know (and love). Myerson also said that the new start menu would be available as a (presumably free) update for all Windows 8.1 users, but wont likely be part of the just-announced Windows 8.1 Update.
