Middle School Missions Update: Mostly what I did in Chicago on - TopicsExpress

Middle School Missions Update: Mostly what I did in Chicago on was, every morning I went to the Carole Robertson Center of Learning and our group just helped the teachers and hung out with the kids as well. I was really proud of myself because Abby, Cole, and I got the whole classroom of kids to get an image of who Jesus is by the end of the week. When we were all saying good bye, I just hated to leave them because they are so fun and they lightened up my day. At one point, I told a little girl that Jesus will always love her and to spread the Word. Straight after that she went and told her best friend all about The Lord and what I said. It was so cool to experience their lives and to get to know them. On Monday, our hosts took us on a prayer tour and I really enjoyed that because I got to see a whole different side of Chicago that I never knew about. I always imagined Chicago as shopping and skyscrapers but after I went on this tour I realized how blessed I am to have great parents that care for me and teach me more and more about Jesus every day. But anyway, on the tour we searched the backways of Chicago and learned about the history of gangs and we looked at all the old buildings and it really opened my eyes. The second day of Chicago, we went to a senior citizens place and played bingo with them. We didn’t really mention the Lord as much as I wish I would have but , we kept them company and made them smile. Third day, we went to a soup kitchen and I mostly refilled the pitchers. I know it doesn’t sound like a very hard job but it was a great job to interact with people and to hear their stories and etc. While I was there, I got to meet a bunch of neat people and got to also hear their stories. I met a guy named OJ and he was so funny and nice and he talked to me about how he came to Chicago and how long he has been in Chicago and it was pretty cool. I felt so good to help people as well, just the feeling that I am helping the Lord and helping the community. Finally on Wednesday, we also did a Immersion and we would have to act like a homeless person for about 4 hours. We had to take buses and trains, all to get to one specific park. We only had $2 for dinner, so our group ended up getting a box of granola bars and a box of cookies. With the rest of our money we bought food for homeless people. Later in the night, we were giving our everything to find a homeless person and we were getting super frustrated so Luke just stopped us and asked us what we should do. Tabby said to pray and that was really smart of her to say because right after we prayed everything was working out perfectly. We met this guy named Alvin and he was more than happy to take our cookies and we prayed with him and it was funny because instead of us praying for him, he was praying for us and it was just such a great experience to see what people have to go through and that was also a moment where I felt so blessed to have a roof over my head and to have parents that care for me as much as care for them. I am just so thankful for this opportunity to go on this trip and to interact with people and share my story and them to share their stories. This was definitely a great first missions trip!
