Middle school student-athletes kicked off their season October 28, joining forces with the St. Brendans squad to face Community R-VI. The Fighting Colonels fell behind in the first quarter of the A-game and were unable to pull ahead, ultimately falling 33 to 55. Starters included eighth grader Isaac Waites and seventh graders Alec Anderson and Jordan Hornick. “Hornick was our star scorer tonight earning over half of our points,” head coach LTC Willis Kleinsorge said. Following Hornick’s 21 points, Waites topped the charts with 8 points. Seventh grader Luke Greenman made a final quarter basket. Cadets fell short in a close two-quarter B-game including starters Guido Arredondo, Christian Cosner, Greenman and Diego Ochoa. “We had the lead and were up 8 to 4. Then in the second half, we lost it in the final couple minutes by a final score of 14 to 15,” Kleinsorge said. “Hopefully when we meet again, we will be ready to turn the table on them and pull out a win.” Cosner scored 4 points, while Greenman and Hornick each earned a basket. Special thanks to senior Alex Pratt for videotaping the matchup! The Colonels next face off against South Callaway at 5 p.m. on Thursday. (Photos courtesy of MAJ Brian Galarza.)
