Mike Huckabee Is “smart government” an oxymoron?...President Obama made a big speech this week, promoting “smart government.” He said that putting the brightest minds to work in government, the way they are in tech companies like Google, is making government smarter, more innovative, efficient and accountable. Really? Our NSA surveillance secrets are being leaked all over the world by a low-level IT contractor. The IRS accidentally exposed up to 100,000 Social Security numbers on the Internet. And large chunks of Obamacare are being postponed or eliminated because nobody can figure out how to make them work. The latest snafu is that insurers can charge three times more for smokers, but not for older applicants, and nobody can figure out how to tell the computers to allow charges that high for older smokers. So that’s being delayed for a year, too. It sounds as the only thing our new “smart government” has in common with the high tech industry is that the intelligence in both is artificial.
