Mikey had a dentist appointment in State College today and my mom and dad decided that they would ride along with us. Taking my dad anywhere is like bringing along your own personal entertainment. Most families play games like I Spy on road trips. My family, however, play things like Spot and Identify the Roadkill. My dad is excellent at this particular game and expressed great disappointment in my mom when she incorrectly identified a ringneck as a porcupine. He couldnt understand how someone could be married to a great hunter like himself and mistake feathers for quills. I myself didnt see the animal in question which disappointed my dad even further (the fact that I was driving and concentrating on the road was no excuse for my lack of participation in the game lol.) Many animals later we arrived at the dentist. After Mikey was taken back to his appointment, the hygienist directed us to the quiet area. I expressed concern since being quiet is quite a challenge for my dad. After about five minutes I pointed out to him that he was the only one talking, and rather loudly (the fact that his conversations are of questionable topics only adds to the ordeal). My mom refused to help me keep him under control and merely buried her face in her newspaper so that she could hide her laughter while I dealt with him. I finally persuaded him to look at a Field and Stream magazine which kept him occupied for about five minutes. After Mikeys appointment we stopped at my Aunt Beverlys to drop off a bottle of homemade elderberry wine and snag Mikey a drink to take his afternoon meds. Mikey emptied the cup just in time since Dad needed a spittoon. Mikey then laughed most of the way home while he pointed out the fact that Pap is spitting in that! We finally made it home at which point my dad told me that I was welcome to ride along to the amishmans and pick up his meat grinder, but I politely declined. Mikeys next appointment is in Danville on the 15th of December. I may be recovered from this experience by then lol.
