Milgaard, who received $10 million compensation from the Saskatchewan government for his wrongful conviction in 1999, said the fight to obtain recompense from reluctant governments is overwhelming for most of the wrongfully convicted...Many governments literally starve them out so they will settle for less. It makes me sick that we can call this justice. One person who attended Milgaard’s speech was Romeo Fillion, who served 31 years in prison for the 1967 murder of Ottawa firefighter Leopold Roy. His conviction was overturned in 2009 and he’s now suing the Ontario government for $14 million. ottawacitizen/news/Conviction+review+process+failing+miserably+David+Milgaard+says/9459077/story.html
