Mili priatelia, dňa 5. júla bude slovenský generálny konzulát v New Yorku zatvorený - 5. júl je štátnym sviatkom na Slovensku - sviatkom sv. Cyrila a sv. Metoda, patrónov Európy, ktorých 1150. výročie príchodu na Veľkú Moravu si tento rok pripomíname. Dear Friends, Consulate General of Slovakia will be closed on Friday July 5, 2013 due to observance of national holiday – Saints Cyril and Methodius Day. Do you know why it is a big holiday in Slovakia? Cyril and Methodius were Byzantine Greek brothers who became Christian missionaries among the Slavic peoples of the Great Moravia – kingdom comprising today´s territory of Slovakia. Through their work they influenced the cultural development of all Slavs including now days Slovaks. They are credited with devising the Glagolitic alphabet, the first alphabet used to transcribe the Bible. They are also Patrons of Europe! This year we commemorate together the 1150th anniversary of the Cyril and Methodius`s arrival to Great Moravia.
