Militants in Keran have supply line to PaK Kargil-II Militants,Pak Army men holding abandoned old bunkers Para troops rushed to frontier, army man succumbs to injuries R K News/PTI Srinagar/New Delhi, Oct 3: In a reminder of Kargil incursion of 1999, around 40 militants along with Pakistani special troops are 300-400 metres inside the Indian territory in Keran sector of Kashmir and are getting logistics support through a supply line across the Line of Control, army sources have said. Army sources said the infiltration attempt took place when Army’s 20 Kumaon battalion was being replaced by the 3/3 Gorkha Rifles unit in the Keran sector. “The militants and their suspected Pakistan Army accomplices are holding on to their positions and are understood to have taken refuge in some abandoned old bunkers of the Army,” they said. Giving an update on the armed engagement that entered the 10th day, the Army Headquarters in Delhi said the group of militants have been surrounded by the Indian troops on three sides. “However, the group has a supply line from Pakistan administered Kashmir and are believed to be getting logistical support from there,” sources in Delhi said. They said indication to this effect came when 10-12 militants joined two days back the group which has already been engaged with the Indian troops. “Pakistani troops also fired from a forward post in the Neelam Valley in support of the infiltrating militant group on the night of September 26,” sources said. They said though the Pakistan Army normally resorts to firing on Indian posts to help infiltrating terrorists, the pattern of maintaining a supply line has been seen for the first time since the Kargil conflict of 1999. Sources identified two observation posts — Khokri and Kullar posts — have been occupied by militants as Khokri and Kullar posts. “Pakistani posts Biswal and Ahithana posts are opposite to the Indian posts”. They said a joint team of Army’s counter insurgency units 3/3 GR, 15 RR, 16 GR and 5 ASSAM are conducting intense searches of the dense forest areas of Shalabhutoo and Naranad forests. Sources said reinforcement of about 300 to 400 personnel of 9 -Para and 4- Para were rushed from Bandipora, Lolab and Handwara areas to flush out the hiding militants and suspected Pakistani soldiers from the forest area of Shalbhutoo. They said militants were well trained and using Global Positioning System (GPS) to monitor the situation. Meanwhile, an army man of 15 RR Kiran Gurang, who was injured in encounter with militants in Keran sector on September 30, has succumbed to injuries Army’s 92-Base Hospital in Srinagar today.
