Military base closure commission considered for 2017 Another round of military base closings and realignments is coming. And, local leaders are primed to mount a case of opposition. Corona Assemblyman Eric Linder is first out the gate. In a joint resolution introduced in the State Legislature, Linder is advising the Defense Department that March Air Reserve Base and the Naval Surface Warfare Center at Norco should be left untouched. Not only do they play a key role in the nation’s defense, but Linder says they generate more than a billion dollars a year for the local economy. “Closing them is simply neither smart nor strategic”, Linder argues. The Department of Defense is considering a Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) commission in 2017.
