Military paranoia. Whats it? Its an unprofessional reaction to perceived undermining of existing security arrangements. And in this space, Its as deadly as death itself, less in its lack of justification only to Boko Haram insurgency. Military paranoia is what Id call the seeming no-nonsense measures designed by our security personnel to demolish all the structures and semblances of groups of people that have previously rebelled against the authority. I lost a cousin and school son to this backlash of terrorism; the soldiers, out of fear, yes paranoia, just opened fire on their car approaching a check-point. They killed them, mistaken for Boko Haram members in Maiduguri on January 4, 2013. This recent killing, by mistake, of Fulani herdsmen in Nasarawa state is just a statistic of many unreported incidents, I mean accidents, of military paranoid. As much as we must stand behind our Offisahs in their ongoing operations to crush the insurgents, overlooking their own criminal clampdown on the innocent, out of obvious paranoia, unprofessionalism, is just as deadly as the insurgency were up to defeat. I read some gloating remarks by some of us, and I wonder if we actually understand the gravity of being scapegoats of terrors that had threatened them too!
