Millburn, NJ- Paper Mill Playhouse (Mark S. Hoebee-Producing Artistic Director, Todd Schmidt-Managing Director) is proud to continue its 75th Anniversary Season with the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical South Pacific . With music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, and book by Oscar Hammerstein II and Joshua Logan, South Pacific will be directed by Rob Ruggiero and choreographed by Ralph Perkins. Mike McGowan joins this enchanting cast as Emile de Becque replacing the previously announced Jason Howard. Paper Mill alumnus Mike McGowan (Emile de Becque) is thrilled to be back at the playhouse where he previously appeared in Kiss Me, Kate (Fred/Petruchio) and Master Class (Tony). On Broadway McGowan appeared in Ragtime, Grease , The Apple Tree, Priscilla and The Producers. Other stage credits include: Bernstein’s Mass (Carnegie Hall, Naxos—Grammy nomination), Thou Swell (Lincoln Center/City Ballet), The Body Beautiful (York, recording), Grey Gardens (Playwrights Horizons), Ringling Bros. (Ringmaster, Madison Square Garden) and Macbeth (Macbeth). McGowan as appeared in the films The Producers and Big Words On television McGowan was featured on Electric Company, Delocated and Curb Your Enthusiasm. Also leading the cast are Erin Mackey as Ensign Nellie Forbush, Tony Award nominee Loretta Ables Sayre as Bloody Mary, Tally Sessions as Luther Billis, Doug Carpenter as Lt. Joe Cable and Jessica Wu as Liat. South Pacific will play the Millburn, New Jersey, theater from April 9 - May 4, 2014. The official press opening night is Sunday, April 13, 2014, at 7:00 PM . Erin Mackey (Nellie Forbush) was seen on Broadway in Chaplin: The Musical, Anything Goes, Sondheim on Sondheim and Wicked. Ms. Mackey’s film and television credits include Blue Bloods, Gossip Girl, Family Affair, Do Over and The Parent Trap. Loretta Ables Sayre (Bloody Mary) is back on the East Coast reprising the role that landed her a 2008 Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Musical. Paper Mill Playhouse alumnus Tally Sessions (Luther Billis) was seen on Broadway in the ensemble of Big Fish. Lt. Joe Cable will be played by Doug Carpenter. Mr. Carpenter appeared in regional productions of The Most Happy Fella, Camelot, West Side Story and Cinderella. Jessica Wu will play Lt. Cable’s love interest, Liat. Ms. Wu was seen on Broadway in A Chorus Line and was featured in the national tours of The King and I, Miss Saigon and The Wizard of Oz. Jordan Lage (Capt. George Brackett) appeared on Broadway in Race, Speed-the-Plow, Inherit the Wind, Glengarry Glen Ross, Our Town and The Best Man. Paper Mill Playhouse alumnus Rob Richardson (Cmdr. William Harbison) was seen on Broadway in Jekyll and Hyde and A Tale of Two Cities. Ryan Andes (Stewpot) was recently seen in the New York Philharmonic’s Sweeney Todd and in Big Fish on Broadway. The Professor will be played by Scott Anthony Joy, who was featured in regional productions of South Pacific, The Jungle Book and Hairspray. The young actors playing Jerome and Ngana were cast at an open-call audition at Paper Mill Playhouse. Bonale Fambrini (Millburn, NJ) will play Jerome and Gabby Gutierrez (Springfield, NJ) will play Ngana. Avery Espiritu (East Hanover, NJ) and Sydney Veloso (Summit, NJ) are the alternates for Jerome and Ngana, respectively. Rounding out the ensemble are: Andrés Acosta, Faye Bautista, Grady McLeod Bowman, Will Burton, Meggie Cansler, Matt Faucher, Joanne Javien, Caitlin Maloney, Christian Marriner, George Merrick, Brian Ogilvie, Samantha Joy Pearlman, Michael Scirrotto, Paige Sommerer, Ryan Steer, Jeff Sullivan, Teddy Tinson, Grace Wales and Gregory Williams. Rob Ruggiero (Director) has earned national recognition for his work as a director. On Broadway, Mr. Ruggiero directed High (starring Kathleen Turner) and Looped (with Valerie Harper in a Tony-nominated performance). He recently directed a critically acclaimed revival of The Most Happy Fella at Goodspeed, where he also directed Carousel and a reduced-version Show Boat. Ralph Perkins (Choreographer) has extensive experience choreographing regional productions including South Pacific, The King and I, Camelot, 1776, Sweet Charity, Sunday in the Park with George, and Urinetown. Mr. Perkins currently serves as Director of Dance for the Theater Division of The Hartt School at University of Hartford. Brad Haak (Music Director) served as Music Director for Disney’s Mary Poppins and Elton John’s Lestat on Broadway. Mr. Haak worked on many national tours and regional productions including Disney’s The Lion King, Miss Saigon, Follies and Sunday in the Park with George. The South Pacific design team includes: Michael Yeargan (Scenic Design) received Tony Award nominations for his work on South Pacific, Golden Boy, Joe Turner’s Come and Gone, The Light in the Piazza, and Awake and Sing! Most recently, he designed the set for The Bridges of Madison County, which is currently playing on Broadway. Catherine Zuber (Costume Design) received Tony Awards for South Pacific, The Royal Family, The Coast of Utopia, The Light in the Piazza, and Awake and Sing!, as well as Tony nominations for Golden Boy, How to Succeed . . . , Born Yesterday, Edward Albee’s Seascape, Dinner at Eight, and Twelfth Night. Ms. Zuber also designed costumes for The Bridges of Madison County on Broadway. John Lasiter (Lighting Design) has designed lighting on Broadway, Off Broadway, internationally, and at regional theaters including Arena Stage, Arizona Repertory Theatre, Center Stage (Baltimore), Cincinnati Playhouse, Dallas Theater Center, George Street Playhouse, Geva Theatre Center, Goodspeed, Long Wharf, Milwaukee Rep and the Muny. Randy Hansen (Sound Design) is Paper Mill Playhouse’s resident sound designer. He is audio consultant and sound designer for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and the Indianapolis Symphony, and he completed the sound installation at the Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine. Numerous television broadcasts include Broadway on Broadway, Victoria’s Secret Christmas specials, and the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Leon Dobkowski (Costume Coordination & Additional Design) designed costumes for Romeo and Juliet (Yale Rep), The Weir (Irish Rep), Spamalot (Muny), Legally Blonde, Disney’s The Little Mermaid, George M! and Smoking Bloomberg. Leah J. Loukas (Hair & Wig Design) designed wigs for the Broadway productions of Irena’s Vow, American Idiot, and Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, as well as hair and makeup design for A Night with Janis Joplin. At Paper Mill Playhouse Loukas designed Oliver!, The Sound of Music and Disney’s The Little Mermaid. Telsey + Company (Casting) is an award-winning organization of casting professionals in New York City with local, regional, national, and international clientele including Broadway and touring companies of If/Then, The Bridges of Madison County, Motown, Kinky Boots, Newsies, Rock of Ages and Wicked. Lead casting directors on this project are Abbie Brady-Dalton, CSA and Andrew Femenella, CSA. Gary Mickelson (Production Stage Manager) recently stage managed The Other Josh Cohen at Paper Mill Playhouse. On Broadway, Mr. Mickelson stage managed First Date, Memphis, Gypsy, Company, Chita Rivera: The Dancer’s Life, The Lion in Winter and Victor/Victoria.
