Millions of people are unwittingly pouring hundreds of tons of tiny plastic beads down the drain. These can persist in the environment for more than 100 years, and have been found to contaminate a wide variety of freshwater and marine wildlife, this is revealed in a report by The Independent on Sunday. Plastic microbeads, which are typically less than a millimetre wide and are too small to be filtered by sewage-treatment plants, are able to carry deadly toxins into the animals that ingest them. The Food Doctor says, obviously the cosmetics industry needs to address this issue urgently. However, in the meantime, the best way to ensure that your body can keep on top of eliminating toxins is to eat a diet rich in fruit, vegetables and whole grains. These provide the vitamins, minerals and fibre that you need to keep the digestion healthy and moving freely, allowing toxins to be eliminated in the faeces and not reabsorbed into the body. For additional support and to help the kidneys it is important to drink plenty of fluids, and during hot weather you may need around two litres of water a day.
