Mina Seyahi all set for final heat of wooden powerboat racing Dubai: As roaring engines and 6-feet high water sprays off the 18 participating entrants in the 5th and Final Heat of the Dubai Wooden Powerboat race on Saturday September 28th in Jumeirah, there was a lot of excitement, anxiety and trepidation as to who will emerge winners. The 30 NM run spread over 7 laps plus a start lap, stretched around Jumeirah on a cigar shaped course in front of Burj Al Arab with stiff competition between the top teams. Competitive spirit The course, similar to the Class 3, 6ltr races, added excitement and a competitive spirit to the race with each lap covering 3.61 NM and a start lap of 4.82 laps. As soon as the green flag is raised, all the boats power up and step on the gas so to say. A spectacular view of boats, raised at the bow, always makes for a lot of action and excitement as spectators line the beach in Jumeirah to witness the action. Each boat vies for the first place and wants to outsmart the other by using all the tactics and skills they possess. From a distance, the wooden boats appear like dolphins, bobbing their head up and down on the waters. The speed with which they manoeuvre their boats is beyond compare. Drivers Mohammed Suhail Khalfan Al Muhairi and brother Ahmed in Sky dive Dubai led from the start maintaining a considerable distance with Raheeb with Abdul Latif Al Omani and Mohammed Turki in the cockpit fighting hard to shorten the gap. Not too far behind was Abu Dhabi Racing Team with Saeed Abdullah Al Noubi and Saeed Obeid Al Muhairi in Extreme Marine. Salim Fadhel Al Hamli and Ahmed Mohammed Hassan Al Suwaidi maintained their fifth position from the start to finish. Taking the overall championship for the season 2012-13 was Skydive Dubai 90 with 400 points followed by Raheeb 17 with 300 points. Abu Dhabi rRacing took the third overall position with 225 points followed by Extreme Marin 2 with 169 points. Extreme Marine 1 closed at 5th place with 127 points. Ali Nasser Bin Hebala, Member Board of Directors, presented the trophies to the top three finishers along with DIMC board members Ali Bin Ghulaitha and Mohammed Al Ayali. Results at the end of the fifth and final heat of the 2012 UAE Wooden Powerboat Championship held at DIMC on Saturday:1. Skydive Dubai; 2. Raheeb; 3. Abu Dhabi Racing Team 2; 4. Extreme Marine; 5.Extreme Marine.
