Mince pie update!: Popped into sainsburys today and Mr Kiplings mince pies were on offer, never been exceedingly good, but clean slate this year Mr K... Presentation: theyve gone for the lid over the pie technique, only problem with that is due to the thickness of the pastry, parts of the lid are cooked darker than the rest, literally one holly leaf is dark brown the other is pale. Add to this the fact the lid isnt on straight, its not a good start Pastry: on first bite my claim of thick pastry was confirmed! The lid is thicker than that base which I just dont get! Considering how much pastry, theyve done a good job of not making it too dry which is surprising Filling: was probably the right moistness for a less pastry heavy pie but not sweet enough, and certainly not enough of it! The pastry to filling ratio is way out Overall: my expectations werent high, Mr K does exceedingly good cakes but he hasnt yet mastered Mince Pies. This score was less than I expected tho, let himself down with a poor 3 out of 10, second from bottom so far in this years standings
