Open to all—ALL themes, ALL subjects, ALL over the world. “Sometimes when life feels terribly overwhelming, it is easy to cling to an illusion of what you want your future to look like. It is very alluring to suppress reality when you feel like you are unable to handle the shuffled deck of cards that has been given to you. However seductive it is, the act is ultimately an illusion. The more hard-pressed you attempt to control everything, the more everything just seems to spiral out of control. This is part of the reason I am endlessly preoccupied with the idea of paradoxes. It seemed to consume everything that I strived for. Ten years ago, I developed an eating disorder to help me cope with the chaos of undiagnosed ADHD. I did not like the choices I was making or the person I had become. I wanted to hide everything about who I was. Now in recovery, I am trying to be open about my experiences in the hope that my stories can help, perhaps, even one other individual fit a piece of their own story together. My pragmatic brain sometimes draws a parallel between working on a long jigsaw puzzle with sorting out all of the pieces of my past. This is part of my story. I am still figuring out where the rest of the pieces go.” These are the words of my sister, the subject of this portrait series.
