Minerals and its Producing states across India: Iron: Iron is the most important mineral. Iron is found from Iron ore. Major Iron ores are Bihar, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra. Singhbum in Bihar and Mayurbhanj in Orrisa are famous for Iron. Coal: It is known as black diamond. It is found in Bihar, West Bengal, Damodar Valley, Orissa, Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Jharia in Bihar and Raniganj in west Bengal are the largest coal mines in India. Petroleum: It is also known as mineral oil or crude oil. In India it is not produced in sufficient amounts. It needs purification and on refining gives a variety of by-products. Found at Digboi in Assam, Ankleshwar and Kalol in Gujarat and Bombay high in off shore of Bombay. Mica: Bad conductor of electricity and used to make house hold equipments such as utensils, airplanes, ship, wires, etc. India is the largest producer of mica in the world. It is found in Gaya, Hazaribagh and Monghyr district of Bihar. Apart from this it is also found in Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan. Copper: Good conductor of electricity. It is used in making wires and appliances. Found in less quantity in India. It is found in Khetri in Rajasthan and in less quantity in parts like Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Gold: It is very precious metal. Some mines of gold are Kolor and Hutti in Karnataka and Anantopuram in Andhra Pradesh. Aluminum: It is Useful in making of airplanes, ships, automobiles electric wires etc. It is obtained from ore called Bauxite. High deposits of Bauxite ores are found in Bihar, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra. Manganese: It is used in the production of steel. India is one of the largest producers of Mika in the country. States such as Orissa, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra have deposits of Manganese. Lead: Lead is soft and malleable element. It is used in lead batteries, bullets, weights etc. It is harmful for body (see lead poisoning). It is usually found as ore in zinc and silver. Half of lead used is obtained from recycling.
