Mini Review of The Devils Advocate (1997) by Van Dien Genre : Mystery Thriller/Supernatural Cast : Al Pacino. Keanu Reeves. Charlize Theron. Synopsis : A lawyer was offered to work in a large law firm. In the end, he found out that his boss, who is his father is Lucifer himself. This film, based on a novel of the same title is so strongly nuanced with religious, philosophical, social and moral commentary, made decadently well. On top of Keanu Reeves bad acting as a hotshot lawyer (Kevin Lomax) is a suavely brilliant performance by ever so reliable Mr Al-Pacino, as John Milton. Not forgetting, the beautiful Charlize Theron who gave a fine performance as Kevin Lomaxs wife who was driven insane by the bizzare episodes that she started to witness since her husband started to work with John Milton. Though John Milton is actually Lucifer himself but more importantly, this film tries to tell the viewers that we human beings can be devils ourselves by being greedy and wanting to win at all cost. Apart from the brilliant acting by Al Pacino and Charlize Theron, and apart from the clever story, I love the cinematography and soundtrack that comes with the violent and decadent images of this film which also touches on the issue of The Antichrist. And another thing to note : The memorable quotes from John Milton (Al Pacino). One such quote John Milton : Vanity, definitely my favourite sin. So, I give 9/10 personal rating to this genius masterpiece.
