Minimum wage was created to stop child labor and slavery. It was - TopicsExpress

Minimum wage was created to stop child labor and slavery. It was thought that if there was a minimum poverty standard no company would be able to take advantage of the little guy he would still survive. The problem is that MINIMUM is viewed as an upper limit by employers. Sure politicians will say that only teenagers go after minimum wage jobs or people that are just trying to supplement their income. Employers treat workers unfairly by paying a couple of dollars over Minimum and expect the workers to be ecstatic about being closer to not living in poverty. While because of that worker, the company makes more money having him there then they will ever have to pay them. Please dont get me wrong there are exceptions, mom and pop shops, costco, and Im sure tens of companies that value their workers... the rest treat us the same be us workers, consumers, or product. Things will change, but we will have to give up much of the illusion of security for the big differences to happen. If you are an employer, be thankful you have people to help you reach your dreams. If you are an employee, make sure you are being respected or actively seeking respect. Both should take pride in the other! Both should be allowed to thrive mutually! People should have been my business... -Jacob Marley, A Christmas Carol
