Minister Loots Furniture The former Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Peter Bayuku Konteh is at the centre of a major scandal that might end his hitherto glittering political career. According to reliable sources in the Ministry of Tourism, the former Minister, after he was forced to resign on Tuesday at State House, returned to his former office at Off-Kinghaman Road, the following day with a hired truck and removed all the furniture in his office. According to a senior Civil Servant in the Ministry of Tourism, the set of furniture in the Minister’s office was donated to the Ministry by the Management to Bintumani Hotel, last year. The Minister is insisting that, he was the one who requested for the set of furniture from the Management of Bintumani Hotel. He is claiming that they were donated to him personally and not to the Ministry. A spokesman for the Bintumani Hotel Management confirmed yesterday that, the set of furniture was donated to the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs and not to any particular individual. Mr. Peter Bayuku Konteh did not respond to several telephone calls made to him yesterday. His predecessor in the Ministry, Mrs. Victoria Saidu Kamara was also at the centre of a similar scandal, after she was relieved of her duties last year. Peter Bayuku Konteh was forced to resign last Tuesday after he refused to rescind his decision to sack the Board Chairman of the Tourist Board, Mr. Ahmed Wurie. A press release from State House on Tuesday states that, Mr. Peter Bayuku Konteh resigned on health grounds. Investigations continue.
