Minister Michael Makuei accuses Radio Bakhita of abandoning gospel for politics JUBA - Minister of Information and Broadcasting of the Republic of South Sudan, Hon Michael Makuei Lueth has branded the Catholic Radio Station, St Bakhita as not faithful for entering into politics uninvited and leaving gospel truths. Lueth, speaking on the ethics of journalism said that the catholic radio station should have stayed on the message for peace and gospel teachings. Bakhita is a religious institution and it was established to air gospel only and it must air only the gospel. I dont know who invited them to talk about politics which has nothing to do with the church. If they wanted to be part of politics then they should change their name and become something else Makuei warned that reporting issues or policies favored by rebels led by the former Vice President, Dr Riek Machar will not be tolerated. If you can go and interview a rebel and then you come and play that material, disseminating it to the people, what are you doing now? You are actually disseminating material of the enemy. When you are disseminating material of the rebels in the country, you are actually agitating the people against the government and that has not been happening all over the world, Makuei warned. Minister Makuei also continued to threaten with arrests if any journalist break media laws or dont want to stick to the ethics of profession. This time we will take you to the court so that the rest of your colleague will know that you have committed an offense and you must be punished according to the law. So if you dont want us to take you to the court, please stick to the ethics of your profession. We will not touch you, but if you cross the line, there will be no way for us not to take any action against you, said Makuei . He also questioned the integrity of journalists and their education. He urged them not to step on the toes of the government. If you have finished the university it does not mean that you are fully a professional journalist, you must undergo training on how journalism work, If you step on the toe of Michael Makuei again, I will definitely take you to court of law
