Minister for Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services The Honourable Tracy Davis Strategy to connect young Queenslanders Young Queenslanders will have fresh new ways to find out about learning opportunities, services and support via the Newman Government’s newly released Queensland Youth Strategy. Launching the strategy today at the Redlands PCYC, Communities Minister Tracy Davis said connecting with young Queenslanders was a whole of government commitment. “We want our young people have the support they need to reach their full potential and lead healthy and fulfilling lives; this strategy is just one way of doing that,” Ms Davis said. “With almost 590,000 young people aged 12 to 21 living in Queensland, we want to make sure we are delivering the right services and information in the right locations, at the right time, to the young people who need it most.” The strategy’s six key areas of connection for young people are: · families and friends and social networks · education, training and jobs · health and wellbeing · community participation and volunteering · access to supports and services · arts and culture Member for Redlands Peter Dowling said the Queensland Youth Strategy was brimming with good ideas, with more than 100 actions and initiatives to be delivered across government. “The youth strategy outlines how government will connect young people to their communities and non-government organisations that will make positive differences in their lives,” Mr Dowling said. Member for Capalaba Steve Davies said the Newman Government recognised that every aspect of a young person’s life was connected. “The Newman Government wants the best start for all youth in Queensland,” he said. “The Youth Strategy provides a framework for engaging and connecting young people to all aspects of their community, so that the next generation can be successful and active members of society.” To get connected to the Queensland Youth Strategy, go to communities.qld.gov.au/youth, follow @qldyouth or email [email protected].
