Minister for Higher & Technical Edu Rajesh Tope feels Aurangabad could be considered for setting up the new IIM, but left the final decision to the Cabinet. ~~~~~~~~ IIM cheer for Maharashtra An Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Maharashtra will go a long way in bolstering the states ego that was pricked at least twice when the IIM-Ahmedabad and the Indian School of Business came knocking on its doors but turned away when the state demanded a quota for locals. Since then Maharashtra has pitched for an IIM, but to little avail. It even lost out in the most recent expansion in 2010-11 when new management schools were added. Finally , with finance minister Arun Jaitleys announcement to set up five new IIMs, Maharashtra will be home to one. Former IIM-Ahmedabad director Bakul Dholakia says, “For one of the most industrialised states in the country, an IIM was a long due need. Having an IIM or an IIT gives a clear signal to the states youth that quality education is available at their doorstep. It encourages them to do that much better.“ Minister for higher and technical education Rajesh Tope said the new IIM will be a model to follow. “Its best practices can be duplicated in other Bschools of our state, its faculty members can train many other teachers, its top quality cases and research papers can be adopted by other colleges“ said Tope. He felt Aurangabad could be considered for setting up the new IIM, but left the final decision to the Cabinet. The location of the institute will determine its future, said IIM-Trichy head Prafulla Agnihotri. “ A management institute is heavily dependent on industry support for several reasons. If the new IIM comes up in Mumbai or Pune or be tween these two metros, I can guarantee s that 10 years from now its reputation p will be close to that of the IIMs in Ahmen dabad, Bangalore and Kolkata,“ . said Agnihotri. d While many feel that a national in stitute contributes little to the host state. epaperbeta.timesofindia/Article.aspx?eid=31804&articlexml=IIM-cheer-for-Maharashtra-Will-Mumbai-play-the-11072014017010
