Ministering Unto The Lord Psalm 136:1-4; 92:1-3 As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them. Acts 13:2 Ministering unto the Lord is one of the blessed privileges of priesthood. To minister unto the Lord simply means to give Him praise, honour, worship and adoration that is due Him, by singing His praise, by lifting up holy hands and by giving Him first place in your life. God has made believers in Christ priests and kings, that is, a kingdom of priests (Rev1:6; 5:10). In Christ Jesus, the believer is to function in the office of a priest. Under the Old Covenant, priests offered gifts and sacrifices to God as representatives of the people; they ministered to the Lord burnt offerings (for thanksgiving) and sin offerings (for forgiveness). They functioned as the peoples go-between before God. Today, we dont offer burnt offerings and sin offerings of animals as they did, but we offer thanksgiving as the fruit of our lips unto God continually (Heb 13:15). In this dispensation of the New Covenant, Jesus Christ has been made our eternal sin offering; therefore, we dont offer sin offerings like they did. We only confess our sins, if we have slipped, and then receive forgiveness by faith in the redemptive work of Jesus on the cross for us (1John 1:9; 2:1-2). Ministering unto the Lord entails singing songs of praise and worship unto God that address Him, magnify Him and honour Him. There are different kinds of songs. Some address us, while others address our situations. The songs that address us and ours cannot minister to the Lord, because they minister to us and not to the Lord. Often, we sing songs that address us and claim we are worshipping God. No, we are not worshipping God. We are only edifying ourselves. Its okay to edify yourself, but its wrong to think you are ministering unto the Lord when you are edifying yourself. Edifying yourself and ministering to the Lord are two different things. Other Scriptures for Meditation: Heb. 13:15; Col. 3:17 My Solid Front (Confession) Heavenly Father, I thank You because I am the circumcision who worship You in the spirit and rejoice in Christ Jesus; I have no confidence in the flesh. I commit to worshipping You always because You are worthy to receive my worship, and as I worship You, I trust that Youll fill me with Your Spirit to stay aglow spiritually, in Jesus Name. AMEN.
